The c|a Team worked with Kaiser Permanente to minimize the risk of a complicated and technical treatment by creating an HDR (High Dose Rate) Suite specifically designed to thoughtfully support every step in the Brachytherapy process.

While a street-level location with direct access from the main entry provided an opportunity to streamline the existing process and minimize patient movement, it also posed challenges. The team navigated radioactive-resistant construction and structural upgrades to support a 250,000-lb. vault. They also provided access-controlled, lockable storage for the HDR device to be monitored by the Department of Homeland Security.

In order to address staff efficiency and minimize patient travel, the procedure rooms were strategically designed with a connecting wall to provide a straightforward gurney transport from one area to the other. The finish selections and design details reinforce Kaiser Permanente standards while providing a peaceful environment for this delicate process.
