Expectant mothers are demanding more out of their birthing experience than ever before. To meet this growing demand for patient-centered care, hospitals are increasingly turning labor and delivery rooms into warm, welcoming environments that also serve as state-of-the art medical environments.

The UC Irvine Medical Center envisioned a transformation of six dated, institutionally designed ante-partum rooms into artistically inviting yet technologically advanced healing spaces. Using design standards usually reserved for luxury homes and hotel suites, elements such as wood-like floors, soft lighting and ample space for visiting loved ones were designed to create the ultimate experience during one of life’s most cherished moments.
