Surgery Center Addition

Redlands Community Hospital

Redlands Community Hospital was looking to expand its surgery services by adding four new operating rooms. In addition to adding to the hospital’s surgery capacity, the new addition features a hybrid bi-plane operating suite previously not available in the region.

The 8,700 square foot building addition offers two new standard operating rooms, one hybrid OR and one future hybrid OR—increasing the hospital’s capacity to 12 ORs. In addition to the sophisticated imaging systems that support the multiple functions of this operating suite, the 1,100 square foot hybrid OR also included the installation of a CLEANSUITE® Operating Room System. The all-inclusive modular ceiling system hangs directly above the patient table and removes airborne particles and contaminants while bathing the patient in HEPA-filtered air. This is a fully integrated system that seamlessly works within the structural, architectural and MEP details of the space. The use of this new technology required an in-depth approval process with OSHPD. The design of the suite was further enhanced by making all control functions and replacement features accessible from the outside in order to not disrupt operation procedures at any time. The design of the future hybrid OR allows the hospital to utilize the area for standard operations while seamlessly adapting it to hybrid capabilities should the demand make it a cost effective decision.

Following the success of the recent Emergency Department Renovation and Expansion project designed by c|a ARCHITECTS, Redlands Community Hospital sought to ensure that their Surgery Center Addition followed the same path of success and requested that c|a ARCHITECTS help complete the project by providing Construction Administration services.

The increased operating room capacity and addition of the hybrid OR sets Redlands Community Hospital apart from the competition with better access and safer care.
