As the Children’s Village went through conceptual, then schematic design, and space planning gave way to floor plans, a series of full-scale space mock-ups was implemented.

This is one VERY big tent!

This is one VERY big tent!

As an ongoing Lean-Designed project, the Children’s Village was always destined to receive a few mock-ups. What we ended up with, was more than we might have ever imagined! An incredibly super-sized tent, which allowed nearly one half of a patient wing to be crafted. Our own little (or rather, large) laboratory, which allowed for users and patients alike to review and experience adjacencies and volumes.

Built of heavy grade cardboard and light gauge framing, the rooms represented an entire wing of the outpatient space, and all primary public areas. Over the course of two weeks, a myriad of departments and users walked the spaces and provided real-time feedback, and modifications could be studied on the fly. The use of mock ups is one of the best ways to assist our clients in truly understanding the plan drawings.
Follow along as the building begins construction, starting fall of 2019.
